Writing
Roles: author, text, inscription, reader, legibility, notation, revision, meaning-intended, meaning-read
The production and interpretation of written text. Writing involves an author composing inscriptions in a notation system, and a reader decoding them. Unlike speech, writing fixes meaning in durable form — creating a persistent artifact that can be revised, copied, and consulted independently of its creator. The frame foregrounds the gap between what is written and what is meant, the craft of composition, and the requirement that readers possess the literacy to decode what authors have inscribed.
