Standardization
Roles: standard, conformance, specification, interoperability, deviation
The process of establishing uniform specifications to ensure compatibility and interchangeability. As a target domain, standardization borrows from manufacturing (interchangeable parts), measurement (calibration, tolerance), and language (grammar, convention). The domain encodes the trade-off between the efficiency gains of uniformity and the innovation costs of constraining variation.
