Philosophy

Roles: argument, premise, conclusion, category, essence, substance, form, teleology

Systematic inquiry into fundamental questions about reality, knowledge, and value. As a target domain, philosophy receives metaphors from virtually every source frame — war (attacking arguments), architecture (building systems), vision (seeing the truth). As a source frame, it exports structural distinctions (essential vs. accidental, form vs. matter) that organize thinking in other fields. Its roles (argument, premise, category) provide the vocabulary for reasoning about reasoning.
