Narrative and Storytelling

Roles: narrator, audience, plot, character, exposition, climax, resolution, tension, pacing, setup

The domain of constructing and delivering stories across media — oral tradition, literature, film, television, and interactive narrative. As a target domain, narrative and storytelling receives metaphors from construction (building a story), plumbing (laying pipe), weaving (plot threads), and journey (story arc). Structurally productive because it encodes the tension between the audience’s experience of unfolding events and the author’s reverse-engineered architecture of those events.
