Leadership and Management
Roles: leader, follower, team, vision, delegation, decision, authority, accountability
The practice of directing collective effort toward outcomes. Encompasses both formal authority (management hierarchy, resource allocation, performance evaluation) and informal influence (inspiration, culture-setting, mentorship). As a target domain, leadership is overwhelmingly structured by spatial metaphors (leading from the front, top-down, bottom-up) and military metaphors (chain of command, strategy, deployment). The persistent tension between direct control and indirect influence makes it a productive target for metaphors from directing, gardening, coaching, and parenting.
