Closed or terminal basins like the Dead Sea, where inflow evaporates rather than draining, produce increasing salinity over time. This dynamic maps onto any system where the outflow is selective: the volatile elements leave, the residue accumulates, and the remaining mixture grows increasingly concentrated.
