Architecture and Building
Roles: builder, architect, blueprint, foundation, scaffold, material, structure, facade, interior
The design, construction, and maintenance of physical structures. Encompasses the full built environment: foundations and framing, facades and interiors, fire barriers and building codes, ornamental surfaces and load-bearing walls. The dominant metaphor family for software development and knowledge work — we build, architect, scaffold, and demolish. Structurally rich because it separates design from execution, foregrounds the idea that invisible foundations determine visible stability, and offers the distinction between public-facing surfaces and hidden internals.
